Ethical Cloud Service Providers - is it Possible?

When it comes to cloud and other service providers, the biggest concerns are generally cost and performance. But when it comes to ethics, there’s a lot more to consider. How does your cloud service provider treat its employees? How diverse is their hiring? Their leadership? What about energy use and concerns about climate change? Servers require a lot of power - is your provider doing anything to reduce its energy uses? How about their acceptable use policy - do they have a content policy or will they host anything?

We’ll examine how this can be measured, how socially conscious investors evaluate these aspects of companies, and how you can apply those evaluations to your own considerations.

We'll give examples and analysis of some major providers, and attendees will come away with things to look for and analyze in order to make an informed choice about the companies they choose to do business with.

Learning Objectives:

  1. How to look critically at the companies you interact with and assess their values to ensure they align with yours.
  2. Learn about standards like ESG and ethical licensing.
  3. Increase ability to spot things like greenwashing.
